Working from Home; Walking to Work — 13 Comments

  1. I’ve recently started working from home much of the time too, and I really like this idea. Unfortunately, with me, there often a frustrating gap between liking an idea and doing an idea, but I’m going to try to give this a go. Cheers!

  2. I once almost got to Petra (when staying at the British School of Archaeology in Palestine, Jerusalem aeons ago). Kathleen Kenyon was going to take me over, but sadly there was trouble and the Allenby gate was closed the day before we were due to go. It’s still on my really, really want to get there, list.

  3. When I worked from home doing software and got stuck, I used to leave the house and walk round the block. My brain usually solved it about half way round. So I suppose I did my commuting occasionally and in the middle of the day rather than at either end.

I have a day job, sadly, but the lunch time walk usually gives me an idea for the novel I’m writing. Then it’s the panic and fear of forgetting it before I can reach the computer.

  4. Great idea, David…if I can stop being lazy and loving the cozy inside of the house! I don’t suppose walking up and down the stairs 10 times counts? And is that Petra on your heading?

  5. One of the main reasons we got a dog was because I found that working from home meant my backside was expanding and I wasn’t leaving the house for days at a time. Now we have three walks a day, and I’ve found it really helps to blow the cobwebs out and get me moving around. And when I’m working she sleeps next to me and keeps me company 🙂

    • Exactly the same here, Jo. A dog would be very nice but owning one doesn’t really fit with how we live our lives right now. I like the saying ‘take your dog for a walk every day, even if you don’t have a dog’, so I’m doing that bit!
