Hello. My name is David Gullen, I make stuff up and I don’t know how to stop.
The Girl from a Thousand Fathoms
I began writing Girl in 2006. After a few drafts it still wasn’t working. I put it aside and went on to other things – lots of other things! Many short stories, a novel, another novel, a third novel in progress, and Once Upon a Parsec, below.
I never completely forgot about it and a couple of years ago I took another look. That gap let me see what was wrong with it. It didn’t need another draft, it needed a complete rewrite.
And here it finally is. I’m proud of this one, I love these characters, I hope you do too.
Warning: May contain mermaids, cats, magic, and sea monsters.
Once Upon a Parsec
As you can see from the cover, Once Upon a Parsec, the book of alien fairy tales, has a magnificent contributors list. A couple of years ago I pitched this idea to Ian Whates at NewCon Press and it is wonderful to see it released into the wild in its full glory.
“Seriously, you need this book.”
– Mike Carey BAFTA nominated author of The Girl with All the Gifts
A Bonnie and Clyde for the Trump Era…
Josie and Novik embark on the ultimate roadtrip. In a near-future re-sculpted politically and geographically by climate change, they blaze a trail across the shopping malls of America in a printed intelligent car (stolen by accident), with a hundred and ninety million LSD-contaminated dollars in the trunk. Pursued by vengeful drug cartels on one side and the agents of corrupt authority on the other, they set out to bring down the system, buying shoes and cameras to change the world.
Meanwhile, President Guinevere Snarlow determines to make America great again. She embarks on an ambitious but perilous campaign, invading Mexico on a pretext and plotting to assassinate the richest man the world has ever known…
Take from the rich, and shop for the poor.“One of the most original books I’ve read in many years. It’s mad and bad and you need to read it.” – Jaine Fenn, author of the Hidden Empire novels. “A clever, dark and often very funny satire on rapacious capitalism.” – Chris Beckett, author of Dark Eden, winner of the Arthur C.
